Checklist
What to look for in an alternative
6 questions to ask any email verifier.
Does it explain results?
Look for a reason with every result, in words you can act on, not only a score.
What does it do with catch-all?
Ask whether catch-all addresses are flagged, resolved or guessed, and what any extra step costs.
What happens with unknowns?
Ask whether results the server won't confirm are charged, and whether you have to resubmit them yourself.
Does your CSV survive?
You should get every original column back, with the results added next to them.
Is there a clean API?
Single, batch and bulk endpoints that return the same fields.
Is pricing simple?
Compare the price per check at your volume, and whether credits expire or need a subscription.

How the alternatives compare
The same questions, answered for each tool.
| Tool | Reason with each result | Catch-all addresses | Pricing model | Free to start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SimpleCold | A statusMessage sentence on every result | Flagged Risky within the normal credit. No paid step to resolve them | One-off purchases from 5,000 credits, $0.005 down to $0.00125 per check. No subscription | 200 credits on sign-up, no card |
| A list of flag codes (for example has_dns_mx, role_account), not a written reason | A separate catchall result (accept all / unverifiable) | — | — | |
| A reason code on every result (for example rejected_email), plus a 0 to 100 score | Risky (reason low_deliverability). Also advertises deeper checks of Google and Microsoft catch-alls | Pay-as-you-go from 1,000 credits; the same amounts can be bought monthly | 100 credits, no card | |
| A result plus a subresult code; no written reason | Flagged catch_all. Extra catch-all testing at no extra cost, which it says resolves about 30 to 40% | One-time credit packs from $39 for 10,000, with optional auto top-up | 100 credits, no card | |
| A reason code on every result (for example rejected_email), plus a score | Flagged accept_all. Risky unless its extra checks can confirm Deliverable or Undeliverable | Pay-as-you-go packs from 5,000 credits, or subscriptions at 15% off | 250 credits on sign-up | |
| A reason code on every result (for example rejected_email), plus a Sendex score | Flagged accept_all and classified Risky | One-off purchases by volume tier, with optional auto recharge; no subscription shown | 100 free verifications |
