Email verification tools compared: 11 options for 2026

Eleven email verification tools compared on list price, free credits, what each result tells you and how catch-all domains are handled, from each vendor's own pages.

Oct 30, 2026 · SimpleCold team

A comparison table of email verification tools on price per 1,000 at 10k, free credits, reason with every result, catch-all marking and API, with the SimpleCold column highlighted

The main email verification tools in 2026 are SimpleCold, ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, Bouncer, MillionVerifier, Emailable, Kickbox, Clearout, DeBounce, Hunter and Reoon. They all check whether an address can receive mail without sending to it, so the real differences are price at your volume, how much each result explains, and what happens with catch-all domains and slow servers. The tables below put those side by side, using facts from each vendor's own pricing pages and API docs, checked on 26 October 2026.

We make one of these tools, so this isn't a neutral ranking and we won't pretend it is. It's a fact sheet. Where another tool is cheaper or does something we don't, the table says so.

How we compared them

Every fact here comes from the vendor's public pricing page, help centre or API reference. When we couldn't confirm something on the vendor's own site, we left it blank instead of guessing. The individual comparison pages link to the exact source for each fact.

Prices are pay-as-you-go list prices in US dollars, without promo codes. Vendors change prices, so treat them as a snapshot and check the vendor's page before you buy.

Price and free credits

SimpleCold$40$200200 credits on sign-up, no card
ZeroBounce$129$649100 credits a month (freemium plan)
NeverBounceNot confirmedNot confirmedNot confirmed
Bouncer$60$400100 credits, no card
MillionVerifier$39$149100 credits, no card
Emailable$60$420250 credits on sign-up
Kickbox$70$500100 free verifications
Clearout$65$400100 credits at sign-up
DeBounce$25$135100 credits, one time
HunterSubscription onlySubscription only50 credits a month (up to 100 verifications)
Reoon$11.90$116.4020 credits a day, plus 100 at sign-up

A few notes on reading this table:

  • NeverBounce's pricing pages didn't load for us on the day we checked, so we only used its developer docs. See NeverBounce alternatives for what those docs confirm.
  • Hunter sells monthly or yearly plans whose credits are shared with email finding. A verification costs half a credit, and monthly credits don't roll over.
  • Reoon, DeBounce and MillionVerifier have lower list prices than SimpleCold at these volumes. If price per check is the only thing that matters to you, start there.
  • Credit expiry matters more than the headline rate if you verify in bursts. SimpleCold, Bouncer, MillionVerifier, Emailable, Clearout, DeBounce and Reoon (for its one-time credits) all say purchased credits don't expire.

What each result tells you

Every tool sorts addresses into a few buckets. The difference is what comes with the bucket: a code you look up, a score, or a sentence.

ToolResult bucketsWhat explains the result
SimpleColdDeliverable, Risky, UndeliverableA plain-sentence reason on every result
ZeroBouncevalid, invalid, catch-all, unknown, spamtrap, abuse, do_not_mailA sub_status code on most results
NeverBouncevalid, invalid, disposable, catchall, unknownA list of flag codes
Bouncerdeliverable, risky, undeliverable, unknownA reason code plus a 0 to 100 score
MillionVerifierok, catch_all, unknown, invalid, disposableA result plus a subresult code
Emailabledeliverable, risky, undeliverable, unknownA reason code plus a score
Kickboxdeliverable, undeliverable, risky, unknownA reason code plus a Sendex score
ClearoutValid, Invalid, Catch All, Unknown, plus a Safe to Send flagA sub-status code with a description
DeBounceSafe to Send, Risky, Invalid, UnknownA short reason with a numeric code
Huntervalid, invalid, accept_all, webmail, disposable, unknownA 0 to 100 score plus check flags
ReoonNine statuses, from safe to spamtrapThe status itself plus a 0 to 100 score

Scores are compact, but you still have to decide what 62 means for your list. Codes are precise once you've learned them. A sentence is the easiest to act on when someone who isn't technical is cleaning the list. We explain why we went that way in why we show a reason, not a score.

Almost every tool on this list also suggests a fix for typos like gmial.com. The exceptions are Hunter and Reoon, whose verifier responses have no suggestion field.

Catch-all domains

A catch-all domain accepts mail for any address, so a mailbox check can't confirm whether a specific person exists there. In B2B lists this is often the biggest single source of uncertainty, which makes it the question to look at hardest if you send cold email. The background is in what is a catch-all email address.

The tools split into two camps:

  • Flag it inside the normal credit. SimpleCold, Kickbox, Hunter and Reoon flag catch-all addresses as risky (or their equivalent) and stop there. MillionVerifier flags them too and runs extra catch-all testing at no extra cost, which it says resolves about 30 to 40%.
  • Sell an extra step that tries to resolve them. Clearout's Deep Verify costs 5 credits when it resolves one, DeBounce's catch-all validation costs 10 credits per address, and ZeroBounce's optional AI scoring costs 1 extra credit. Emailable runs extra checks that can move an accept-all address to Deliverable or Undeliverable, and Bouncer advertises deeper checks for Google and Microsoft catch-alls.

SimpleCold doesn't sell a resolution step. We detect catch-all with a probe per domain and label those addresses Risky with the reason, because no ordinary check can confirm them. If resolving catch-alls is central to your workflow, compare the paid options above on your own data. Our guide to verifying catch-all emails covers what those methods can and can't do.

Unknowns and slow servers

Some mail servers greylist, rate-limit or answer slowly. How a tool handles that decides how many addresses you get back with no answer, and whether you pay for them.

  • Refunded or not charged: ZeroBounce, Bouncer, MillionVerifier, Emailable, Kickbox, Clearout, Hunter and Reoon say unknown results don't cost a credit. Most ask you to resubmit later.
  • Retried before giving up: Bouncer retries greylisting for up to 15 minutes, and DeBounce checks up to three times before returning Unknown.
  • SimpleCold: a slow address shows Processing in the app and in CSV jobs, then its final result, usually within a minute or two. Over the API you can collect a pending result for 30 minutes without paying again. If the server never confirms, the address is Risky with a "no response" reason, and that result is charged like any other finished check.

That last point is a real difference. If your lists are full of servers that rarely answer, a tool that refunds unknowns may cost you less. How SimpleCold handles slow mail servers explains our approach.

APIs and bulk jobs

All eleven have an API for single checks. Beyond that:

NeedTools that document it
Batch JSON requestsSimpleCold (50 per request), Emailable (up to 50,000), Kickbox (up to 1 million), Bouncer (async batches up to 500,000), ZeroBounce
Bulk list jobs over the APISimpleCold (CSV upload up to 50 MB), ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, MillionVerifier, Clearout, Reoon (up to 50,000), DeBounce (from a public file URL)
A form widget or scriptNeverBounce (JavaScript widget), SimpleCold (form protection)
Bulk verification only in the web appHunter

SimpleCold also has an MCP server so assistants like Claude and Cursor can verify addresses directly, and Node and Python SDKs.

Which tool fits which job

Based only on the facts above:

  • Lowest list price at volume: Reoon, DeBounce and MillionVerifier.
  • Paying extra to resolve catch-all addresses: Clearout, DeBounce or ZeroBounce, or MillionVerifier's free extra testing. Test on your own catch-all-heavy file first.
  • Finding and verifying in one subscription: Hunter, if you already use it to find addresses.
  • Very large API batches: Kickbox, Bouncer or Emailable.
  • The largest one-off free start: Emailable's 250 credits. Reoon's 20 a day adds up if you only need a few checks.
  • A plain reason on every row, no subscription, credits that don't expire: SimpleCold, at $0.005 per check for 5,000 down to $0.00125 at 500,000. See pricing.
